Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is back with a new HD port on the PS4, Nintendo Switch & Xbox One. This gem from the Wii era looks better than ever and has fun new challenges for new and returning Monkey Ball fans. Packed with all new TIme Attack Mode and Sonic as an unlockable it has more content then ever too. But is it as fun as I remembered, or should this monkey have stayed in 2006?
Well I’m happy to say, while playing on PS4 the new control scheme didn’t really distract me from the fun. While Banana Blitz was based around the motion controls of the Wii, the new HD version uses traditional controls to tilt the stage. While this may seem easier, and it kind of is, it’s also less hassle to play. This more relaxed way of playing is less stressful and the baby bumpers on the first half of the game helps the player to get adjusted to the new controls. While this may annoy veteran players, it’s a nice addition for the more casual or younger gamer.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD really nails the line of fun party game for the casual and young audience. My wife, who is not a gamer in the slightest had a blast rolling around the stages. Banana Blitz is a perfect game to whip out at christmas and play with the relatives. For those who like a more challenging experience though, Banana Blitz has you covered. It’s all new Time Attack Mode will see you playing through some tough stages as fast as possible. Looking for an even harder challenge? Then Decathlon Mode sees you pitted against 10 hard challenges in a row to try and roll your way through.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is a return to form. It’s fun gameplay is perfect for all ages and it’s more simplified controls make it easy to pick up and play. While it may not be for everyone out there, I’d recommend it for any Monkey Ball or party game fans.
