I certainly don’t envy the team over at P Studeos. After all they had to follow up one of the best JRPG’s ever made, Persona 4, with a new game, Persona 5 in 2016. And while Persona 5 doesn’t quite hit the heights of Persona 4 in my personal opinion, Persona 5 nonetheless is one of, if not the best JRPG on the PS4. So where does the incredibly talented team at P Studios go? Well, improve Persona 5 obviously. And thus, we have Persona 5 R.
Persona 5 R boasts a bunch of new features and a whole new term. In what was originally an 80 hour game, Persona 5 R can see players pushing the 100 hour mark, without grinding for the perfect game. Off the bat, this is an incredible value for money. Especially in trying times like we are in now. Add in some rather welcome additions, and a new character, Persona 5 R is more of an improvement then one would think at first glance.
For lovers of Persona 5, fear not. The core game is still here, along with all your favourite characters, looking at you Futaba. Persona 5 R though adds new hang out spots, side activities and an extra 20 hours of griping content with your favorite gang of Thieves. Add in some new endings and a more streamlined trophy list, and I really don’t see why another 100 hours isn’t on the cards for long time fans like myself.
For the casual fans, or people new to the series, Persona 5 R is the perfect jumping on point. If you’ve never played a Persona game before, then buckle yourself in for 100 hours of pure JRPG gold. From Persona’s incredible turn based battle system, to its high school life/dating sim, there’s something here for everyone. Add in some of the most memorable characters in the franchise’s illustrious career and you are bound to have the time of your JRPG lifes.
For long time fans, or new ones alike, Persona 5 R is the perfect way to start your journey with this truly amazing franchise.
